The Practice

DASH-DYEING TEACHES US HOW TO FEEL

Dash-dyeing is a somatic creative practice. It happens in the body before it happens in the mind. You hold a handful of colors and notice which one your hand won’t put down. Somewhere in that ritual, you start listening to yourself differently.

THE Philosophy

Chromatic Kintsugi

Traditional kintsugi repairs broken pottery with gold, honoring the break as part of the story. Chromatic Kintsugi does the same with color and cloth. We fill the places where life has split us open with pigment, because the stains deserve to be celebrated, not hidden. Dash-dyeing taught me how to understand my emotions. It showed me what I was craving before I had words for it, and it taught me how to shine the right light.

THE RITUAL

BORN WITH GIFTS

We are born with gifts that need to be cultivated. Not discovered once, but tended, like a garden. Dash-dyeing as a ritual opens you up to what your body is asking for. More warmth. More calm. More fire. More room to breathe. The colors you reach for are information.

There are so many ways to connect with the life happening around us. Dash-dyeing bridges a gap most of us don’t have a tool for: it lets you embody what you feel in something you made with your own hands, and then wear it.

THE CONCEPT

GROWing WILD

What happens when we honor the fractures in a life instead of hiding them? Through collaborative styling, chromatic dye processes, and intimate portraiture, people work with More Joy to make their moments of rupture, rebuilding, becoming, and return visible.

Clothing can hug you. It can forgive you by making space for the stains that will come. An imperfect piece is a practiced piece. It has lived. We make things meant to be worn in. When your hands are in the making (the dyeing, the stitching, the choosing of color), you stop being a consumer of fashion and become its author. And you start learning what you feel. That shift changes everything.

THE INVITATION

WE'RE NOT WEIRDING PEOPLE OUT. WE'RE WEIRDING THEM IN.

So many people worry their colors will be too much. That they’ll weird someone out. Here’s what I’ve seen, over and over: people gravitate toward the bigger version of you. When you wear what’s true, you give off the right light, and the right people find it.

Be a big version of you. It’s how your people find you.

In the Studio

Pick your way in

There’s more than one way to start. Every one of them begins with your hands in color. Bring your own pieces or choose blanks at the studio.
