The Sarong

A wrap dress made from one square of crinkle gauze, crossed over the chest and tied at the neck.

Illustration of a person wearing The Sarong, a More Joy Festival Sarong tie

The Sarong turns a Festival Sarong into a wrap dress for lazy days and moonlit walks. Crinkle gauze is airy and forgiving: the wrinkles are the point.

Best with: the Festival Sarong, a 60″ square of airy rayon crinkle gauze.

Step-by-step illustration: how to tie The Sarong with a More Joy Festival Sarong

How to tie The Sarong

  1. Hold the Festival Sarong behind your back at underarm height, one corner in each hand.
  2. Bring both ends around to the front and cross them over your chest.
  3. Take the ends up over your shoulders and tie them at the nape of your neck.
  4. Smooth the fabric so it drapes the way you like.

Sensory note

Make it feel good

Crinkle gauze breathes, so this is my favorite tie for hot days when anything fitted feels like too much.

Wear it with: Sandals, a sun hat and a beach bag (try the Bag tie).

Videos for every tie are on the way. Follow TikTok and Instagram to catch them first, and find every tie in the Ways to Tie library.
