What Happened When We Danced Like the Planets
There are nights that feel like medicine, and Sunday night in Cedar Springs was one of them. In a fire-lit backyard tucked into two acres of cedar and open sky, people arrived and did something quietly radical: they put on colors they had never worn before, and then they moved in them. Musicians picked up instruments in shades that made them want to play louder. Dancers pulled on deep earth tones and felt the fire in their chest catch. The clothing, the live music, the fire, the food — it all layered into something that felt less like an event and more like a ceremony.

Emmy as Mars
Emmy arrived and reached for rust brown and terracotta — burnt reds that matched the planet itself. She didn’t just wear the colors. She became an extension of them. Her movement wasn’t choreographed. It was planetary. In flow with the wind, the earth beneath her, the heat from the fire behind her. Watching Emmy, Kami, and Johnny do acro yoga in the Cedar Springs back country, in their planetary layers, was one of the most beautiful things I have witnessed at any More ∞ Joy gathering.

Kami as Pluto, the Moon, and the Deep Purple Spaces Between
Kami went deep. She layered herself into the darker end of the cosmos — Pluto’s mystery, the moon’s shadow, the purples that exist at the edge of what light can reach. In that palette, her presence became something the camera loved and the fire understood. There’s something about someone finding the exact color that matches their inner weather. You could see it happen in real time when Kami pulled those layers on.

Johnny as a Black Hole
Johnny wore Hot Black and neutral black — a black hole in human form. Weightless gravity. Absolute presence. The contrast between his stillness and Emmy and Kami’s movement during their acro yoga performance felt cosmically choreographed. He held the center while they orbited. That’s what a black hole does.

The Night as a Whole
The live music was vibing. The bonfire added smoke and warmth and that particular magic that only happens when people are gathered around a fire. There was fresh chicken and snacks, and the kind of easy communal eating that slows time down.
What moved me most was watching people try colors they had never given themselves permission to wear — and then watching those colors change how they moved. A musician in deep orange picked up differently. A dancer wrapped in indigo found a new tempo. When clothing, music, food, and space align, something opens in the body. That’s what happened on March 14th.
“The clothing, music, food, and space all created a vibe that felt like medicine.”

Thank You to the Space and the People Who Made It
Deep gratitude to the Cedar Springs backyard that held us — two acres of cedar, sky, and firelight, twenty minutes north of Grand Rapids. Thank you to everyone who showed up willing to be moved.

There are moments when a body stops performing and starts orbiting.
That’s what this evening is for.

Coming off the Cosmic Bodies runway — where eight planetary looks stepped into living orbit at Michigan Fashion Week — I’m bringing that energy out of the studio and into the wild. Into a fire-lit backyard tucked into two acres of cedar and sky, twenty minutes north of Grand Rapids.
This is not a dance class. It’s not a performance. It’s a permission slip.

Dance Like the Planets is an invitation to get back into your body by getting into a play state with your people — flow arts, scarves, live music, and the kind of movement that doesn’t have to be spinning to be planetary. Movement that reacts. That breathes. That responds to what’s around it.

The evening begins at 6 pm, with fittings. I’ll bring a selection from the Cosmic Bodies collection — earthy neutrals, burnt rusts and terracottas, deep magentas and purples of the imagined universe — so you can layer into a look that connects you to something bigger than yourself. Just a small shift in color can shift your mood. Finding that connection can be healing.

As Michigan’s winter light begins its slow descent, we move. From 6:30 to 8 pm I’ll be capturing bodies in motion — people dancing in the shades they’ve chosen, embodying the cosmic bodies above us. The sun sets around 7:30. Expect clouds, cold, fire, and something electric anyway.
Wear layers you can move in. Bring colors you love. Bring yourself.
There will be live music, a fire, and scarves you can borrow as props for your flow.

What to expect:
— 6:00 PM · Arrive & costume fitting from the Cosmic Bodies collection
— 6:30 PM · Dancing, flow arts, live music begins
— 8:00 PM · Sunset & fire
— 9:00 PM · Wind down

Where: 12151 Ritchie Ave NE, Cedar Springs, MI 49319
Weather: Dress for the 40s. Layer for the cosmos.

The runway is not just for models. It’s for humans. You don’t need to know how to dance. You just need to be willing to move.
