Turquoise is clarity, curiosity, and sky-wide possibility—and Matty carries it like a current of joy. I met Matty years ago, but we reconnected through MOONDANCE—his signature series of ecstatic dance experiences that weave together movement, firelight, breathwork, and intention. He is the founder of Somatic Play and Wellness, where he guides individuals and families through music, breath, and intuitive somatic practices to deepen self-awareness and open paths to healing.
Matty is someone who feels like the sky—open, expansive, and full of light. Photographing him felt like capturing the wind in motion. We shot on Amber’s land (you may recognize her from Dragon Fruit), where he arrived with his beloved dog Max by his side. It was Matty’s daughter who chose the color—a clear, fierce turquoise—and it couldn’t have been more fitting. The moment he stepped into the shade, it felt like his whole being lit up.
Matty balances sincerity and silliness with grace. He can hold the weight of healing work and still leave room for joy, goofiness, and fluidity. In dance, he is both the initiator and the invitation—an embodiment of turquoise itself: vibrant, alive, and flowing.

Symbolism
Turquoise is the color of clear communication, spiritual openness, and fluid self-expression. It holds the balance between the emotional depths of blue and the growth-centered vitality of green. This color is often associated with truth-telling, insight, and playful wisdom.

Psychology
Psychologically, turquoise resonates with those who crave authenticity and connection. It supports people learning to speak their truth, express emotion, and stay in their body while doing so. This is the color of emotional fluidity and radiant self-honesty.

Energy
Energetically, turquoise harmonizes the throat and heart chakras, creating space for clear communication rooted in compassion. It supports openness in relationships, intuitive insight, and the ability to both listen and lead.

Somatics
Somatically, turquoise may feel like a cool breath in the lungs or a flowing rhythm in the limbs. It invites both stillness and movement, helping the body soften into presence. Wearing turquoise can bring clarity to your thoughts and ease to your body’s expression.

If turquoise is your color, you may be on a path of embodied truth. You might be learning to trust your flow, express yourself with clarity, and create spaciousness for others to do the same. This color reminds us: presence can be playful. Healing can be light. And freedom is a dance we each get to choreograph.
